Two Vision Centres for West Bengal

Two Vision Centres for West Bengal

Thanks to Wen Giving Foundation, two Vision Centres have opened in the northern part of West Bengal, Eastern India.  These centres are the first of this kind of eye health initiative in the region.

These vision centres were launched in partnership with Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital – one of the leading eye hospitals in the state of West Bengal. These 2 vision centres are part of a larger no of 5 vision centres planned for the hospital’s catchment area.

The first vision centre was launched on the 14th of July 2019 in Bijanbari – about 2500 feet above sea level in the Himalayan range.  The centre is located approximately 100 kms from the base hospital in Siliguri and will provide extensive primary eye health services  in addition to conducting local outreach camps and school screening activities in the region.

The second vision centre was launched on the 15th of July 2019 in Dhupguri – is a small tea plantation town, approximately 90 kms away from Siliguri Hospital.  The vision centre is located on the main road of the town and is close to government offices and the bus terminus. The centre has been opened in a renovated part of a building owned by the local Lions club.

On the first day of inauguration both centres saw 11 patients each.
