Launch of the largest Ophthalmic Training Institute in North Bengal

Wen Giving Foundation and Mission for Vision inaugurated the training centre of Greater Lions Institute of Ophthalmic Sciences at the Siliguri Greater Lions Shri Vidya Sagar Oswal Eye Hospital on Tuesday, 1 March 2022.

Named as the Wen Giving Foundation Training Centre, the allied ophthalmic training centre is the biggest ophthalmic training institution in North Bengal with residential facility for 90 allied ophthalmic practitioners and 10 ophthalmologists. This 2-floor; 25,000 sqft facility exhibits a fully furnished and medically equipped seminar halls, classrooms, a Phaco training centre and a fully archived library with digital learning facility. It also houses an auditorium to host any large scientific gathering, workshop or meetings of 500 people capacity.

This project addresses the scarcity of qualified eye health workers and poor distribution of those qualified health workers. Emphasis will be given to women candidates to encourage them to participate actively in this area of work which will increase their access to skills development and economic empowerment.
